Too salty for my taste

i do enjoy a good musical

July 21, 2008 · 6 Comments

just not High School Musical.  Though i’ve never seen it, and never plan on it…(for I may like it, and what then?)

Anyways, thats besides the point.  Yesterday, I was informed of a made for the internet musical blog called Dr. Horrible.  Its a Joss Whedon thang, and seeing as though I do love Buffy, and most things Joss, I was intrigued.  THEN, i found out it starred Neil Patrick Harris…and I am pretty much in love with everything he does, so I figured I’d check it out.  THEN, i found out it was being taken offline last night, and i had mere hours to watch it.

So I did.

Whedon is the creator of the TV shows “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel” and “Firefly.” “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” is a musical superhero spoof starring Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion. It was freely available streaming online through July 20, and will be available for download and on DVD.  Its only $3.99 for all three episodes.  Buy it.

It was great, and musical, and ridiculous, and starred some of his old favorites.  And now you can buy it on iTunes.  Good thing I got in early.  Cuz im cheap.  I would recommend it though, and I apologize I didnt inform you sooner.  I just didnt know.  If you are a fan of the Buffy musical episode, “Once More With Feeling,” you will find it especially enjoyable.  The Whedon brothers have a knack for writing lyrics, harmonizing and creating something worth seeing.  Maybe they will start showing this in theatres for a sing-along as well…especially since they pulled the Buffy showings.

Food Court Musical

July 8, 2008 · 1 Comment

I am in love with Improv Anywhere.  I think its because they do things I wish I could be a part of…but most are in NY.  No pants day in the subway.  Freezing in Grand Central.  The equivalent flash mobs here, like Santacon and Brides of March are awesome…but I want to be a part of Improv Anywhere.

Only Improv Anywhere can pull off one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.  You ever fascinated with shows, musicals and movies where people just break into song? They did it in real life….and well I may add.  Just watch and see.  If you want to see the process, you can check it out here.  I want to be an agent.  I want to participate in shit like this.  I want to be a twin and ride the subway in a  human mirror.   I just want to be a part of it.  Luckily they have branched out and have shit listed on this Urban Prankster site…but its not the same.

I know its Tuesday but…

July 8, 2008 · 1 Comment

I needed to share a few goings on from my weekend.

So I believe in Karma.

I believe that good things happen to good people, and if something bad happens to good people, karma will step in and fix it.  At least I do now.

Quick story.

We are housesitting Friday night.  Saturday morning, we go to take a shower (yes I said we), and I open the slider. Its a glass shower door that hangs, and apparently I the track came loose and the shower door found its sweet spot, and SMASH!  Tempered glass all over the bathroom.  And we were going to leave in 20 minutes.  Damn.

The next few hours we spent cleaning.  Spoke with the homeowner.  They were just happy we werent hurt.  Drive back to SF, roommate is in the driveway.  (SHAKES FIST!)  Thats ok, there is a spot up the street.

Grab the spot up the street. Get out of the car, and see a few cards on the concrete.  Could be credit cards, drivers licesnces or something, so I pick them up.  Two gift cards.  I look around, see no one, see no remainder of a wallet, or signs that anyone is coming back.  Was it wrong for me to take them? I dont think so.  I could justify it all day.  Who do I turn cards without names into?  Do I report it?  Thats just stupid.  Its like finding a $5 bill.  Only difference.  It wasn’t $5.  It was a $25 iTunes gift card, and a $200 Macys card.

Karma.  Accidental glass door shattering.  Timing worked in our favor coming home, so much in fact that the gift cards were waiting at the car.  Not in the driveway where I normally park…but up the street.

Call it what you will…someone was on our side.

Three hour time suck

July 3, 2008 · 1 Comment

So i am obsessed with So You Think You Can Dance.  The unfortunate part about this obsession is it has been monopolizing my mid-week after work time.  (Thanks to Mick for being so understanding). Two hours on Wednesdays and one on Thursday for the elimination, and Im stuck on my couch watching Twitch and Kerrington and Matt and Courtney and all of the other dancers wearing awesome costumes and moving in ways I could only dream of.  I mean seriously.  Splits and twists and grace.  I am by far not the most graceful person in the world, and I would love to be that bendy.

Seriously.  These kids are super talented.  You get a hip-hop guy doing the tango, and a contemporary artist doing the fox-trot and thats entertainment.

During the results show, they pull in “professional” dancers in one genre to kill time.  Last week it was this asian hip-hop dance troup, and they performed this killer routine to Blackalicious’ Chemical Calisthenics, and I had never heard the song before.  Loved it, and so at least I can say that even though this show is sucking my valuable time away from me…I got new music out of it.

These are not the contestants.

I didn’t watch the show last seasons.  I may have been better off.  With no new programming this summer, the reality shows are pulling me in, but this is the only one that Im finding I cant live without.  If only someone would shoot Mary in the face and destroy her toothy grin…then I’d be ok.

June 27, 2008 · 1 Comment

Sometimes mint just doesn’t cut it ya know?

But seriously, check out this site.  Bacon band-aids, bacon airfreshener, and actually ironically enough, bacon flavored mints.

This guy I know started a company called Lollyphile, and has been making and selling the shit out of bacon lollipops.  Seriously.  Chunks of bacon.  Buy them. Try them. This post has not been paid for by him, and I dont even think he knows I’m talking about him.  I have a few sitting at home, and I’m craving one right now.

Mmmmm…bacon.

happy dance

June 23, 2008 · 2 Comments

This video makes me want to:

a) smile

b) travel

c) do a little dance

d) all of the above.

Backgrounder via Laughing Squid.

In 2006 video game developer Matt Harding took a 6 month trip traveling to 39 countries and made a video of himself dancing at various locations along the way. In 2008 Matt went on a follow-up trip, dancing his way through 42 countries in 14 months, this time inviting people to dance with him. Both of Matt’s trips around the world were sponsored by Stride Gum.

per your blog entry

June 18, 2008 · 3 Comments

Having been in corporate America for a little under 2 years now, I am still a bit green to the business speak. Trying to determine what bandwidth means outside of the internet, and realizing that it can mean time as well was a bit confusing for me. Until I started interacting with clients, and actually using these terms, I guess I didn’t get it. I still don’t. Not fully anyway. My two favorite to speak of are “ping” and “low hanging fruit.” Ive learned to leverage these terms into my daily business vernacular.

Did I just use leverage right?

This is top of mind right now because of an article in the BBC News from June 16 that tackles all of this jargon. I guess the in the workplace, British English isn’t that far off.. Guess I should go toss that into the rubbish bin.

Keep reading for a few examples from the article, unless you decided to read thru the whole thing.

hooray for the gay!

June 17, 2008 · 1 Comment

Yesterday Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin, partners for more than 50 years got married in Gavin Newsoms office. There is a great article about it in the SF Gate. I am upset that I didn’t go to the Civic Center yesterday to check out the celebration, but I think that was a perfect start to what is now going to be commonplace. Not the getting married in Newsoms office, but the gay marriages. Some couples are having their 4th or even 5th ring ceremony, having had made commitmements in front of friends and family, and even the courts once before, only to have it made null by the government. Now with last month’s state Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage in California, the gays have it!

I was especially touched by the photos of Phyllis and Del. I think that its adorable that after all these years, they still want to make that legal commitment to each other, and it goes to show that love is love.   I only hope that after 50 years I can still have that happiness and affection for someone else.

I was also linked today to a cute lil video of after the ceremony, but because its MSNBC, I can’t embed it. So check it out via the link.

Seriously…

How sick would it be to sit on a coffin…

while gazing up at your octopus chandelier ?

that would be the life.
