bacon themed road trip

We didnt plan it to be that way.  It just happened.  Mick and I left on Saturday morning, and started driving north, goal for the day to reach Portland.  It started with the rental.  We had to rent a Ford Explorer due to the size of the cargo we were delivering to Seattle the following day.

We first noticed the button on the dash.  We referred to it as the bacon button.  Come to think of it, I dont think we ever pushed it.  We just touched it on occasion.  It looked like this:

Then came the picture Mick took in the restroom at the 1st rest stop we came to.  He came out of the bathroom, and showed me the picture.

Its a pretty bad photo, but if you look close enough, you can see it demonstrates.

In the top frame, if you push the button.  In the bottom frame you will recieve bacon.

Then, as we were driving, we kept on seeing the bacon signs.  Every time we saw the sign, we touched the bacon button in the car, because really, what else was it for.  The sign looked like this.  I took pictures on my iPhone, but they aren’t sending right.  Again, can you see the bacon?

And to top off Day 1 of our whirlwind trip to Seattle and back, we landed in Portland.  Crashed immediately.

Woke up for breakfast for Day 2, and of course had to try the famous VooDoo Doughnut, Maple Bacon Donut.  Seriously, everything is so much better with bacon.  It tasted like french toast smothered in syrup, and you accidentally (or on purpose) left your bacon on the plate.

Damn i’m hungry

road trip woo!

So, after being inspired by Derek and Meagan’s trip cross country, I decided that I NEEDED a road trip, if only to blog about it on the way.  My blogs likely wouldn’t be nearly as entertaining as Dereks, but I wanted a reason to blog mobile-y through WordPress on my sweet new iPhone.  Well folks, looks like the time is nigh.

So Mick does some stuff for some company and he has to drop some things off in Seattle.  Now, apparently its expensive to move these things in a truck, and they can’t travel by plane, so he offered to drive them.  So…he and I are embarking on a journey.  Driving to Seattle on Saturday, and flying back Sunday evening.  It’s not a week and a half of sight seeing,  hiking and eating.  Its a drive.  A few hours in Seattle. And a plane.

However, 15 hours in an SUV with Mick will give me plenty of time to get a few entries in, especially because I mapped our route to Seattle with a few definitel layovers.

1. We will drive up the 101 toward the Redwoods past Eureka.  I cant remember the last time I’ve seen a Redwood, and with our awesome SLR cameras, and my great iPhone camera to back it up, I figured why not. Maybe we will drive thru one of these.

2.  We will hopefully be stopping in Portland as well.  Its on the route, and I hear I am supposed to eat a donut from Voodoo Donuts. There is supposedly a specific type of donut I’m supposed to eat there, but I’m not gonna tell you what it is till I eat it.  Don’t want to ruin the surprise.

3. Then, its a straight shoot to Seattle, at least in my plan.  Im sure sleep will happen too, somewhere, but I figure with such a short trip, I want to spend as much time in Seattle on Sunday as I can before our 6:00 plane flight.  I WILL go back to Seattle, and spend at least a weekend in Portland soon….I have a feeling this trip will be a tease.

What do you do for 15 hours in a car?  Music, chit chat, sleep?  What kind of games do you play?  I want good road trip ideas.  (Even mini-road trips)
